Meet the 2020 Jeep Gladiator. It can crawl up the face of a mountain, haul over a thousand pounds of payload or tow over seven thousand pounds of trailer or recreation vehicle. The only thing this new Jeep can’t do is leap over tall buildings in a single bound, but perhaps no one has tried yet.
The Gladiator combines the best of two worlds. It combines the legendary 4×4 capacity of Jeep SUVs (specifically the Wrangler) with the remarkable capability of a sturdy truck. The result is an open-air Jeep truck that can go anywhere with best-in-class towing and the ability to haul just about anything.
Jeep is redefining their definition of capability with the new Gladiator. It is equipped with Command-Trac and Rock-Trac 4×4 systems, third-generation Dana 44 axles, Tru-Lock electric front- and rear-axle lockers, Trac-Lok limited-slip differential, segment-exclusive sway-bar disconnect and 33-inch off-road tires. This “go anywhere” vehicle will deliver superior on- and off-road dynamics and a host of innovative safety and advanced technology features. Gladiator is also able to cross streams and waterways with ease with up to 30 inches of water fording.
The new Gladiator will be offered with a choice of engines and transmission types. New Gladiator owners can select either gasoline or diesel powertrains. The gasoline 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine is paired with either a eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. For those who prefer diesel fuel the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Although the Gladiator will be the largest Jeep in the 2020 lineup, its lightweight high-strength aluminum doors, hinges, hoods fenders, windshield frame and tailgate help curtail weight and boost fuel economy. It is packed with advanced technology including Jeep’s Uconnect system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and the choice of 7.0- or 8.4-inch touch screens with pinch-and-zoom capability. Rubicon models also receive a forward-facing off-road camera and all models have more than 80 available advanced safety and security features.
Because this truck is a Jeep it is available with a multitude of different color options as well as door, top and windshield configurations. Its body color sport bars feature integrated grab handles for front passengers to “hang on” during off road adventures. A new Sunrider soft top or three-piece body color hard top allow for partial or full open top positions.
